Septic Tank Replacement Service: Ensuring a Healthy and Functional System
Septic tanks play a critical role in waste management for properties that aren't connected to a municipal sewage system. Over time, these underground structures can deteriorate due to age, improper maintenance, or subpar materials. When signs of failure appear, homeowners must seriously consider septic tank replacement to avoid environmental hazards and maintain the health of their property.
The Process of Septic Tank Replacement
Septic tank replacement is a complex task that demands careful planning and execution. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of the process:
Inspection and Assessment
The first step involves a thorough inspection of the existing septic system. A licensed professional will evaluate the tank's condition, its age, size, and location, as well as the soil percolation and drainage capabilities. This assessment will provide valuable information for determining the appropriate replacement strategy.
Permits and Regulations
Before initiating any work, it's essential to obtain the necessary permits and adhere to local regulations. Septic tank installations are subject to strict guidelines and environmental considerations, so it's vital to ensure compliance.
Tank Pumping and Cleaning
The existing septic tank undergoes septic tank pumping and gets cleaned to prepare for the replacement process. This step also helps identify any underlying issues, such as clogs or damage to the drainfield.
Excavation and Removal
Excavation equipment is used to uncover and remove the old septic tank carefully. Professionals take care to avoid damaging surrounding structures or landscaping.
Installing the New Septic Tank
The replacement tank, selected based on property needs, is carefully lowered into the excavation site. It's crucial to ensure proper positioning and alignment during installation.
Connecting the Plumbing
The plumbing lines from the property are connected to the new septic tank, and proper sealing is applied to prevent leaks.
Backfill and Compaction
The excavated area is refilled with soil, which is compacted to ensure stability and prevent sinkholes or ground settling.
Final Inspection and Testing
Once the replacement is complete, the system undergoes a final inspection and testing to ensure everything is functioning correctly and meets regulatory standards.
What Are Some Other Options For Septic Tanks?
While traditional septic tanks are common, several alternative options exist, catering to various property needs and environmental considerations:
Aerobic Septic Systems
Aerobic systems use oxygen to break down organic matter more efficiently than conventional anaerobic systems. These systems are ideal for properties with poor soil percolation or those located in environmentally sensitive areas.
Cesspools
Cesspools are simple and cost-effective systems that collect and store wastewater. However, they require frequent maintenance and are not suitable for properties with high water usage.
Mound Systems
Mound systems are employed when soil conditions aren't conducive to traditional drainfields. Wastewater is pumped to a raised, gravel-covered bed, where it is naturally filtered and purified before percolating into the ground.
Sand Filter Systems
Sand filter systems employ a layer of sand to treat and purify wastewater before it enters the drainfield. They are effective in areas with poor soil drainage.
Recirculating Sand Filters
These advanced systems use a combination of sand filters and recirculation pumps to enhance wastewater treatment, making them suitable for challenging soil conditions.
Why Should You Have Septic Tank Replacement?
Several factors can lead to the need for septic tank replacement:
Age and Deterioration - Septic tanks have a finite lifespan, typically ranging from 20 to 40 years. As they age, materials degrade, leading to structural weaknesses and potential leaks.
Drainfield Issues - When a septic tank fails to remove solid waste effectively, it can result in clogged or oversaturated drainfields. This issue can contaminate the surrounding environment and necessitate replacement.
Cracks and Leaks - Cracks in the tank's walls or joints can lead to wastewater leakage, posing health risks and potential environmental pollution.
Increase in Household Size - If a property's water usage increases significantly, the existing septic tank may become insufficient, requiring a larger replacement tank.
Property Renovations - Home additions or remodeling projects that lead to a higher water usage may overwhelm the existing septic system, necessitating an upgrade or replacement.
Septic tank replacement is a crucial investment in maintaining a healthy home and preserving the environment. By understanding the process involved, exploring alternative septic tank options, and recognizing the reasons for replacement, homeowners can make informed decisions to protect their property and their community. Regular maintenance and proactive measures can extend the lifespan of a septic tank, but when replacement becomes unavoidable, consulting with a licensed professional from Underground Septic ensures a seamless transition to a new and efficient system.

I would definitely recommend these guys. They answer your call and get back with you in a timely manner. I called them and they were able to help me the next day (may not always be the case, depending on how busy they are). They are very respectful, professional and will help you in any way they can. They were able to explain and answer all of my questions. I will definitely be giving them a call again to do my septic work. Thanks for all of your help.
Got a call in advance with their eta. The goal was to pump our septic tank and install a riser. Unfortunately the lid to the tank did not have a cleanout opening in it. To resolve this (for an extra charge of course) they sent one of the technicians out to get a replacement concrete lid with cleanout while the other tech completed the ""T"" replacements and pumping. The work was excellent.
Quickest, friendliest, and yet most reasonable pricing for the service you can ask for. I found them online, contacted the owner josh. They were very respectful, showed up the next the, and gave us so expert advise and education regarding our issues. Fixed the problem quickly. We couldn’t ask for a better service. Great service. Great price. You not gonna find any better.
They were able to come out a day earlier than expected which was awesome. They were very personable and open about the issues I was needing dealt with and what it would take to fix them. It cost a little more than I was expecting but that was not their fault. The issue was just more complicated than what I thought it was. Very nice people and seem very knowledgeable.

These guys are the real deal. They took on a very difficult job. Went the extra mile to jack hammer out some major granite rock in order to get my tank put in. I’m so impressed with the professionalism and determination to get this done. Other companies wouldn’t touch it. They didn’t hesitate and did an awesome job and at an affordable price. I would give 10 stars if I could. If you’re considering other companies look no further. Josh is the best!
Josh and his team are amazing. They were easy to contact and schedule to come out. What we thought was just a full septic needing changed ended up being a bad pump and a clogged line on top of full tank, but they explained what needed to be done and got it fixed and pumped. His team is nice, easy going, and quick. I cant even tell where they dug the septic out they covered it so well. We will most definitely recommend to friends and family.
Josh was incredible. We had a back up on Labor Day weekend and he was quick to respond and get us out of a bind. We ended up needing a little more then just a septic pump and he was very reasonable, polite, hard working and I would call him back anytime I had a problem. Very dependable can’t say enough about him and his worker. Giving up their time so we could continue with ours!! Thanks again for a job well done!
